Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has expressed optimism and confidence about the possibility of the the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2023.

Sàràkí said their chances of winning 2023 presidential election will be holster by the impending defection of some top APC members to the major opposition party.

The former Kwara governor, who spoke when he featured on Arise TV flagship programme, the morning show, said the growing and palpable discontent among the citizenry owing to the dispiriting state of the nation will work in PDP’s favour.

Featuring on Arise News on Tuesday, Saraki suggested that some top APC chieftains would defect towards the 2023 general elections, saying bigwigs do not defect at an early stage.

“We are expecting defections from the ruling party. If you follow politics, you will understand that some of the big players don’t defect early; they defect very late in the game; so just keep watching”, Saraki said.

Speaking on recent of defection of some top members of the PDP to APC, Saraki said the crosscarpetting of some of PDP’s members to APC didn’t come as a surprise as most of them had left the party long before their official announcement.

PDP has lost three governors to APC this year. Ben Ayade of Cross River, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, have defected to the ruling party.

Some federal and state lawmakers have also dumped the party for APC citing one reason or the order.
