Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be out for about six weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend. The Brazilian international was forced off late in the second half, with tests confirming he is unlikely to return until after November’s international break.
This injury rules Alisson out of crucial Premier League fixtures against Chelsea on October 20 and Arsenal a week later, and two Champions League games against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen. He could be back in the Liverpool squad for the trip to Southampton on November 24.
Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed the Palace game due to illness, will be asked to deputise in goal. The Irishman has already displaced Alisson for part of last season when the 32-year-old was ruled out by a similar hamstring problem.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot confirmed the setback. “It will be a few weeks before he’s back. Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world, and not having him in our team is a big blow.”
Liverpool plays in the Premier League and stands one point ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal with 18 points from seven games.
