Afrobeat sensation Davido finally buried the rumors of a supposed spat with Wizkid in an interview with BBC Radio.
According to him, there was no bad blood between them, as they were seen hanging out in public just ahead of his album Timeless this year. He shared that he was so serious about keeping peace that he called one of his core fan influencers and made it known that at no time should clashes be entertained with FC (the known Wizkid fanbase).
This time, Davido wants the launch of his album to be drama-free and for unity to be demonstrated in the Afrobeat scene. “I told them, don’t fight anyone, there’s no beef with Wizkid,” Davido said. But despite his best efforts, the skirmishes between fans continued, resulting in his album leaking two days before its release. Still, Davido was quick to point out the “positive side” of his passionate fanbase and how they were also fiercely loyal and supportive.
The interview cemented the notion that unity within Afrobeat could be the key to success with no unnecessary distractions. Fans of both artists have taken notice, and Davido has once again gained respect across the board due to his being calm in the situation.
