Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, has finally broken his silence after his recent release from police custody. The vocal rapper, who is popular for making controversial remarks, was arrested a few days ago following a defamation complaint by Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy.
The drama had started when Darlington posted a video questioning the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s win at the Grammys, saying that his success was hooked onto American music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and insinuating that the success at the Grammys was orchestrated and not quite well-deserved. The comments, which had gone viral, appeared to have crossed the line as Burna Boy took legal action.
Darlington was released after days in detention but true to his Akpi nature, he didn’t keep quiet for long. In the video he shared on social media immediately following his release, the rapper confidently ridiculed Burna Boy, boasting that it took “30 million” to orchestrate his arrest.
He was anything but cowed in the video, teasing his detractors with his resilience. Brashly, he said, “EFCC dey give bed, DSS dey give food. I don survive ground zero, what can you do to me next? If I go missing, na you, if you go missing, no be me.” From his utterances, he sounded fairly unbothered by the experience and prepared for whatever other face-off there might be.
He captioned the video accompanying it, “Big fish, it takes 30 million to carry me,” in reference to the alleged cost of his arrest. This flamboyant and defiant attitude by this rapper keeps the conversations going, as many await Burna Boy’s next move into this ongoing feud.
