The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), which is backed by Jeff Bezos’ Bezos Earth Fund and the Rockefeller Foundation, has started a project in Nigeria to help solve the country’s ongoing electricity problems.
According to GEAPP, the company completed the first small solar power system in December, and two more are being built. They have also secured funding for the fourth. These small solar power systems will work together with the limited electricity from the main power grid to provide a steady supply of power to businesses and homes.
Nigeria’s electricity sector has major problems, as around 86 million people don’t have access to power. About 86 million people don’t have access to electricity. The main power grid only provides 4,000 megawatts, which is about one-sixth of what South Africa can produce.
GEAPP’s Demand Aggregation for Renewable Technology (DART) program simplifies the process of buying solar equipment, lowering costs for developers. The national grid supplies only 4,000 megawatts, which is about one-sixth of South Africa’s total power-generating capacity.
Additionally, the organisation oversees a $25 million fund to help developers get the money they need.
