Kayode Ajulo, a lawyer, has written to King Charles III, requesting for the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, to be granted the prerogative of compassion following their conviction by a British court.
Ajulo requested in a letter to King Charles III, which was made accessible to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.
An Old Bailey Court sentenced Ike, his wife, and doctor, Obinna Obeta, to nine years, four years, and ten years in prison, respectively, for violating British regulations on kidney donation and transplant.
He described Ekweremadu and his wife’s story as sorrowful, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth.
He described their actions as a “desperate” attempt by parents to save their daughter Sonia’s life.
According to Ajulo, the lady in question was in desperate need of a kidney donation, but her parents and doctor went about the task in the most unsavory of ways.
He explained that Ekweremadu may have chosen not to openly advertise for a kidney donor to avoid con artists who would take advantage of his daughter’s illness.
