Abike Dabiri, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has expressed her disappointment with the broadcasters and presenters of Arise Television regarding comments made during Emdee Tiamiyu’s interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), which seemingly supported the ban on Nigerian students from bringing their dependents to the United Kingdom.
One of the anchors at Arise TV, Ayo Mairo-Ese, had criticized President Muhammad Buhari on a morning show, accusing him of labeling Nigerian youths as lazy and criminally inclined. Mairo-Ese had also claimed that Dabiri referred to the youths as drug dealers and cultists.
Dabiri had however, taken to Twitter to refute the allegations made by the presenter and has called for a reorientation of the female presenters at the television station. She emphasized in her tweet, her own journey and hard work to get to her current position, warning that those who try to bring her down with baseless claims will face consequences.
Dabiri’s statement read:
“I worked hard to be where I am today , and if women no where your age and achievements feel the only way to bring you down is spew nonsense, they will meet their waterloo!”
