A Chinese supermarket in Abuja has sparked outrage after reports emerged that it barred Nigerian customers from entering. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) took swift action, shutting down the supermarket on Monday and summoning the owners for questioning.

On Wednesday, FCCPC officials grilled the supermarket owners about the alleged discriminatory practices. They also conducted a thorough inspection of the facility. This comes after a video went viral online, showing an Abuja resident expressing frustration at being denied entry due to their nationality.

The supermarket, located at the China General Chamber of Commerce in the Federal Capital Territory, was accused of only allowing individuals of Chinese origin to shop there. This sparked public outcry and prompted the FCCPC to investigate the claims.

The situation highlights a concerning trend of potential discrimination against Nigerians in their own country. The FCCPC’s investigation aims to uncover the truth behind these allegations and ensure that all businesses operate within the bounds of fairness and equality.
