The Council of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has announced in a newsletter signed by Dr. Smart Olugbeko, president, and Dr. Ahmed Bazza Lawan, secretary-general of the association that they would be starting a one-month strike on Tuesday, 14th of June 2022.
The Union has started this industrial action to pressure the government to give into their demands. They had suspended their strike earlier on in December 2018 but they would be starting the strike again in June 2022 for another four weeks. The National Executive Council had also said that that they would recovene after the four weeks to decide what the next step would be after taking note of the Government’s response to their strike action.
The strike action is expected to be undertaken by all levels of the Union, including federal and state colleges of education. The leaders of the Union have also been directed to undergo media awareness to drive home their points to both the government and the public.
The strike compliance would be monitored by the Vice Presidents/Zonal Coordinators of the Union and erring Zones would be sanctioned and exempted from the gains of the struggle.
