The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) announced that the United Kingdom Government has rejected its plea to extradite Mrs. Deziani Alison-Madueke, former Minister of Petroleum Resources.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Garba Baba Umar, who is the Head of Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, disclosed this on the margins of an investigative hearing by a House of Representative Ad Hoc committee.
The committee is looking into the alleged illegal sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil.
Umar told the committee, which is chaired by Mark Gbillah, that mutual legal assistance (MLA) procedures were followed in an attempt to bring Diezani back, but the UK government refused.
He claimed that his efforts resulted in the arrest and repatriation of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former head of pension funds, and Mohammed Adoke, the former Attorney General of the Federation (SAN).
