The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) confirmed yesterday that there would be no sit-at-home directive during the upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections.
IPOB has warned the Pan Nigeria President of the Igbo Extraction Coalition (PANPIEC) against blackmailing the organization by tying it to the execution of sit-at-home directives.
In a statement issued through its spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group stated that it has no intention of enforcing a sit-at-home during the general elections.
According to the statement, IPOB has never used force to hinder the Nigerian election process. Instead, they once called on Biafrans to boycott elections, which were later canceled.
They claimed that they had no interest in Nigeria’s political process and that their only concern was the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and the timing of the Biafra referendum to determine the political future of Biafrans living in or outside Nigeria.
They further stated that they are aware that PANPIEC is one of those financing this phony IPOB outfit that is issuing and implementing hazardous sit-at-home commands in the South East. They are perplexed as to why the group continues to associate the paid agents of confusion with us, although IPOB has explicitly condemned any association with Simon Ekpa and his colleagues.
The statement further adds that IPOB has not called for a sit-at-home during the next elections, which is on record and in the public domain.
