Divorce, a common occurrence when two couples are unable to sustain their relationship, is often viewed differently when it comes to celebrities. Particularly, female celebrities bear the brunt of the blame for failed marriages, leading to accusations of irresponsibility.

Nollywood actress Iniobong Edo recently shared her experience of a failed marriage during an interview with renowned media personality Chude Jideonwo. She admitted to having doubts about entering into a marriage in the first place. Ini-Edo tied the knot with American-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina on November 29, 2008. Unfortunately, their marriage only lasted five years before they divorced in 2013. It’s worth noting that she previously discussed the reasons for the marriage breakdown with Ebuka Obi Uchendu in 2022. According to her, family interference played a significant role, and her profession as an actress also contributed to the collapse of the marriage.

During her conversation with Chude, Ini-Edo disclosed that her family had pressured her into the marriage and that she would only consider marrying the right person in the future. She candidly expressed regret over her decision to get married, realizing it wasn’t the best choice for her.

In 2021, the actress welcomed a child through surrogacy. However, she faced criticism for this decision, as she was accused of discouraging women from carrying their own babies. Little did people know that Ini-Edo opted for surrogacy due to a series of miscarriages.

Explaining her choice, she said, “I turned to surrogacy because I had experienced several miscarriages and reached a point where I felt exhausted. I don’t have a husband, but I wanted to have a child for myself, regardless of my marital status. Surrogacy seemed like the best option to have a child who is biologically mine. Thankfully, I have healthy eggs to use.”

Ini-Edo also clarified that she doesn’t harbor any disdain for marriage. If she meets the right person, she would be open to getting married again. It’s essential to recognize that just like anyone else, celebrities face their own set of challenges in marriage.
