Hajia Aishatu Binnani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Adamawa State, has been suspended by her Yola-South Local Council chapter just one month before the governorship election.
Binnani was accused of refusing to appear before a disciplinary committee to explain allegations lodged against her, according to a statement issued yesterday in Yola and signed by the 21 executive members.
While addressing journalists in Yola, the APC chairman of the local council, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, who confirmed the suspension, urged the state executive to enforce the suspension to instill discipline in the party. If the state executive members do not reverse the suspension, it will be in effect for six months.
Nevertheless, in a rapid response, the State APC Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, stated that the party’s constitution does not allow local council party executives the authority to suspend a member of the party, except at the ward level.
According to Abdullahi, the ruling was a waste of time, was null and invalid, and had no consequence.
