Leicester City icon Jamie Vardy will leave the club at the end of the summer when his contract expires after 13 years at the King Power Stadium.
Brought in from non-league outfit Fleetwood Town for £1 million in 2012, Vardy became a club legend for the Foxes. Against the odds throughout his career, he came from Stocksbridge Park Steels to win the Premier League title in 2016 — Leicester’s transcendent success under Claudio Ranieri.
And, with Vardy’s help the club went on to be promoted twice as Championship winners, to win the FA Cup and reach the quarter final of the UEFA Champions league. He is pushing 500 appearances and 190 goals — a record run of scoring in 11 successive Premier League matches was the highlight of his goal-laden title season.
Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha saluted the striker, saying: ”Jamie is a unique player. He’s a special player and an even more special person…I will be forever grateful to everything he has done for this football club.”
His last home game will be against Ipswich Town on May 18, with his last-ever match being at Bournemouth on May 25. Nobody at Leicester can match that legacy.
