The Actors Guild of Nigeria has finally suspended one of its members, Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, indefinitely for what it describes as “professional misconduct.” In a statement that was released on Friday by the Guild, Abubakar was said to have been placed under suspension following a two-year secret investigation over her alleged involvement in spreading damaging information about her colleagues and others in the entertainment industry.

The AGN said the Special Secret Investigation Panel that was set up found Abubakar involved in the malicious defamation of Nollywood and false representations against fellow actors, associates, and high-profile patrons. Among the rumors included extramarital affairs with influential persons, some of which even claimed the involvement of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

After gathering evidence for two years, the panel found Abubakar guilty of the accusations and thereby put her on indefinite suspension, referring her to the National Disciplinary Committee for further punishment. During this period, she would not be allowed to engage in or attend any AGN or film-related activities.

The Guild also insinuated that other female members were currently under investigation by the same panel, especially those connected with the recent rumors involving dealings with the Senate President. This move by the AGN shows a no-nonsense approach to indiscipline in the industry as it strives to keep Nollywood and its thespians above board.
