Aisha Yesufu, a Human rights activist, has lambasted Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, for reportedly ordering the arrest and detention of Aminu Adamu Muhammed for posting a defamatory post on social media.
Muhammed had been a final-year student in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, Federal University Dutse, in Jigawa State, before his arrest. He had previously in June tweeted in Hausa “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi” loosely transliterated to “the mother has gotten fatter by eating masses’ money.”
Muhammed had reportedly made the tweet in anger over the protracted strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, as a result of the Federal Government’s failure to honor its agreement with the union.
23-year-old Muhammed had been arrested by police officers on November 8 on the campus ground of Federal University Dutse, Jigawa, and beaten up.
Yesufu, who had given her opinion on the turn of events had described Muhammed’s arrest as unconstitutional and outrageous while blaming the chronic poverty in the country on the abysmal leadership failure of the Buhari Administration.
