Governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu has declared that one of the five suspects who have been detained and named by Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabor as suspects is not one of the alleged assailants of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo. On Wednesday, the governor’s chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde, released a statement headlined, “Akeredolu Clears Air On Arrest Of Kuje Prison Escapee, Idris Ojo.” In it, Akeredolu said that Irabor made a mistake. Irabor had revealed on Tuesday that five people believed to be the attack’s masterminds had been taken into custody.

In a joint operation with the Department of State Service, the military and Kogi State’s Okehi Local Government Area detained four terrorists on August 4 at Eika. Idris Ojo, 37, was taken into custody on August 7 in Aiyetoro, Ondo State. He was a well-known member of the Islamic State of West Africa Province who managed to escape from Kuje Prison. To be more specific, the Ondo State Government released a statement that stated, “The attention of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been attracted to the announcement of Idris Ojo as one of the attackers of St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, apprehended by the security services.

Governor Akeredolu recognized the misunderstanding the statement had caused in the public sphere, especially because the regrettable episode at Kuje jail occurred before the heinous attack on June 5 in Owo. The Governor said that there was an error in Irabor’s announcement. Idris Ojo, who is listed as being wanted by the Kuje Prison escapees as number 14, was apprehended in Akure at his brother’s home, according to Akeredolu.

He added that Irabor made a mistake when he reported that Ojo had been arrested for being one of the attackers in the attack on June 5 in Owo. Ojo was taken into custody at his brother’s Akure home. After escaping from Kuje jail, his brother Jimoh Ibrahim welcomed and housed him. He asked everyone to stay watchful and provide the state’s security authorities with the assistance they need.
