Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open after winning his first-round match, which has put a dent in his opportunities of becoming world No.1 again and overtaking Jannik Sinner.
The Spanish tennis player got the better of Otto Virtanen in his opening match, but felt pain in his right wrist during the match. The problem has even gotten serious after the match. He has to cancel the scheduled training session on Wednesday before he finally decides to pull out of the tournament.

Alcaraz confirmed his withdrawal by acknowledging that the injury turned out to be a lot more serious than originally suspected. He said, “The moment I drove my backhand, I even felt my wrist give way, and the discomfort was getting worse throughout the match. After tests, it’s unfortunately the injury is bigger than we thought.”
He was really upset about pulling out and expressed his love for the Barcelona tournament. Nonetheless, his decision was based on the fact that it is vital to keep his body healthy for the remainder of the clay court season.
Alcaraz is set to head back home to start recovery with his medical team and plans on being fully healthy for future tournaments.
