Amad Diallo scored his first career hattrick as Manchester United came from behind to register a 3-1 victory over Southampton at Old Trafford, maintaining an unbeaten home run against the Saints that now stretches to 16 matches in the Premier League.
Southampton began brightly and Kamaldeen Sulemana found André Onana making an early save before Mateus Fernandes missed a golden opportunity with a close-range effort. The visitors finally secured the lead just before the interval when Manuel Ugarte accidentally redirected Tyler Dibling’s flick into his own net beyond Onana.
Antony was introduced by Ruben Amorim at the break, but Southampton remained in the driving seat. Kamaldeen came close to doubling their advantage, but his effort went just wide. United finally found their way through in the 82nd minute when Amad latched onto a loose ball to fire home. Before stoppage time, the Ivorian added to his tally by rounding off a slick move involving a one-two with Christian Eriksen, while he completed his hat-trick in added time after profiting from a defensive error.
The win moved United up to 12th, giving them a first home league victory since December, while Southampton’s away problems continued with their 18th winless match on the road.
