#AmupitanMustGo: ADC Youth Plan Massive Protests Across Three States

African Democratic Congress youths are set to protest at the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa states on Monday. The target is clear: INEC chairman Joash Amupitan. The demand is in the hashtag: #AmupitanMustGo.

The party’s National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, made the announcement in a post on X on Monday, where he shared flyers for the Lagos and Ogun demonstrations. Both are tagged “Operation Occupy INEC.” The Lagos protest will begin at Yaba College of Technology. The Ogun protest is scheduled at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited office in Abeokuta. Jigawa is also on the list, though specific details for that location were not immediately provided.

The ADC youth want Amupitan out, and they are willing to take to the streets in three states to make their point.

#AmupitanMustGo: ADC Youth Plan Massive Protests Across Three States
Not the First Protest

The planned protests come weeks after prominent opposition figures staged a similar “Occupy INEC” protest in Abuja on April 8, 2026. That protest was not a small gathering. ADC chieftains who participated included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, and Dino Melaye.

The presence of those names elevated the protest from a party event to a national political statement. When Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso stand together under one banner, the political establishment notices. When they demand the removal of the INEC chairman, the message is not casual. It is coordinated.

Now the youth wing is taking the fight beyond Abuja. Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa are not symbolic choices. Lagos is Nigeria’s commercial capital and a political battleground. Ogun is a South-West state with significant electoral weight. Jigawa is a northern state where the opposition needs traction. The three-state strategy suggests a deliberate effort to build national momentum, not just a one-off Abuja spectacle.

The Demand

The #AmupitanMustGo campaign is rooted in opposition claims that INEC has become an instrument of the ruling party. The ADC and its allies have accused Amupitan of overseeing a commission that favors the All Progressives Congress, undermines opposition parties, and fails to guarantee free and fair elections. The April 8 Abuja protest was the opening salvo. The three-state protests are an escalation.

Amupitan has not publicly responded to the latest protest plans. INEC has previously dismissed opposition criticisms as politically motivated. But when protests spread from Abuja to Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa, silence becomes harder to maintain.

What to Expect

The Lagos protest is set to begin at Yaba College of Technology. That is a strategic starting point — a major educational institution with a large youth population. The Ogun protest at the NNPC office in Abeokuta suggests a different tactical approach, targeting a federal government asset rather than an INEC office directly.

Security agencies will be watching. The government has shown little tolerance for protests that disrupt public order. But the ADC youth are framing this as a democratic exercise — citizens demanding accountability from an electoral commission they no longer trust.

Whether the protests will be peaceful, how many will turn out, and whether security forces will intervene are open questions. What is not in question is the ADC’s determination to keep #AmupitanMustGo in the public eye.

The Bottom Line

ADC youths are set to protest at INEC offices in Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa on Monday under the #AmupitanMustGo campaign. The party’s National Youth Leader announced the protests on X, sharing flyers for “Operation Occupy INEC” in Lagos and Ogun. The Lagos protest will begin at Yaba College of Technology. The Ogun protest is scheduled at the NNPC office in Abeokuta. The protests follow a similar “Occupy INEC” protest in Abuja on April 8, which featured top opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The hashtag has moved from social media to the streets. The question now is whether INEC and the government will respond — or wait to see how many protesters actually show up.
