Controversies and Omissions
The nominations list has sparked debate among Nollywood fans, especially with the snubbing of Everybody Loves Jenifa, a Funke Akindele project that was widely expected to receive nominations. This omission raises concerns about the selection process and the AMVCA’s criteria for recognition.
Another key issue is the exclusion of YouTube-based films, despite the platform becoming a dominant force in Nollywood. Given the rise of independent filmmakers and digital-first content, it’s time for AMVCA to introduce a category for YouTube films to foster competition and recognize the industry’s evolution.
