Erling Haaland is set to miss a large chunk of the rest of the season after the Manchester City striker damaged his ankle in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth.
Haaland also limped off in the game, and later, his left ankle in a protective boot was seen on crutches, igniting grave concerns about the nature of the injury. City are working to determine how soon he will return and have said he will see more specialists.
“Erling underwent preliminary tests in Manchester on Monday morning, and will now consult a specialist to confirm the full extent of the injury,” a club statement said. “It is anticipated that Erling will be fit to play a further part this season, including the FIFA Club World Cup.”
Given that City is fighting to finish in the Premier League’s top four to ensure qualification for the Champions League, Haaland’s absence is a huge setback. He will now miss significant matches, such as the Manchester derby on April 6 and is racing against time to be fit for the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 26.
