Anthony Martial, a 28-year-old forward, has signed for AEK Athens as a free agent after leaving Manchester United in June, the Greek club announced on Thursday. The Frenchman signed a contract until 2027 and will wear the number 26 jersey for the 13-time Greek champions.
While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, reports suggest the former France international will earn $3.32 million per season and is going to be one of AEK’s highest-paid players.
He had spent nine memorable years at Manchester United, scoring 90 in 317 outings for the club across all competitions. He always proved vital to whatever successes United achieved, helping the club win the Europa League, FA Cup, and two League Cup titles. However, due to his recurring injury problems, his last appearance came in December 2022.
Now with Martial’s arrival, AEK Athens is further strengthening their current roster at the top of Super League Greece with 10 points from four matches. The Greek champions signed former Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla midfielder Erik Lamela earlier this summer. AEK Athens plays this Sunday against Kallithea to look for the pace in the current season.
