Veteran rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I Abaga, has opened up about his regret for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 general elections.

Speaking on the Menism podcast, the award-winning artist revealed he initially backed the APC due to concerns about corruption under the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt. I was part of the people who lifted my voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy,’” he explained.

M.I noted that his political stance came back to haunt him after he tweeted about herdsmen attacks in Benue State and was reminded of his earlier support for the ruling party.

“I tweeted about the thing that happened in Benue and a lot of people were saying, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC,’” he said.

Reflecting on the experience, the rapper admitted that he made a mistake.

“As a human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong sometimes. APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams,” he said.

M.I added that he is now focused on using his platform to promote nation-building, empower the youth, and advocate for accountability and progress in Nigeria.
