TheAll Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, the political party in Ebonyi State has harshly criticized Governor David Umahi for banning political campaigns and rallies in the schools, markets, and parks in the state.
Governor Umahi had previously, announced a total ban on the organization of political rallies in public schools and some public places in the state, which had taken effect from November 1.
This announcement has already been met with severe reactions and one of them is coming from the senatorial candidate of the APGA, Chief Ifeanyi Eleje, who had described the ban as ‘undemocratic and ridiculous.’
Eleje had made his opinion known during an interview on Saturday, November 19, saying that the move was projected towards gagging opposition politicians in the state.
“You ought to feel the pulse of the people and they need to read you when you are speaking to them. This can only be achieved where you have a level-playing field and also freedom of expression. All the candidates may not have the privilege of using the public media like our state governor. So, it is not a fair policy and it’s not equitable either.” He had said.
