Appeal Court Fines Ex-Presidential Candidate Attempting to Stop Tinubu’s Inauguration

The Abuja Court of Appeal had on Thursday, May 25, fined Chief Ambrose Owuru, a former presidential candidate, the sum of N40 million for filing a frivolous suit in an attempt to stop the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29.

The appellate court had directed Chief Oworu to pay the fine of N10 million each to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation AGF, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and lastly to Tinubu whom he made 1st to 4th defendants in the issue.

Justice Jamil Tukur had read the lead judgment of the three-man panel of the court, and judged that Owuru abused grossly, the court process by filing a frivolous and vexatious suit to provoke the respondents.

Justice Tukur had also held that Owuru’s decision to resuscitate the case that died since 2019 at the Supreme Court was purposefully intended to pit the lower courts against the supremacy of the apex court.
