The death toll in the tragic ArcelorMittal mine fire in Kazakhstan reached 42 on Sunday, with the search for four missing miners still underway, as stated by the Ministry for Emergency Situations.
According to the Ministry, the search operation is facing obstacles due to the presence of destroyed mining equipment and debris in certain areas.
Rescuers are combing through two separate sections of the mine, located 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) apart.
A day earlier, ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the local branch of the Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal, reported the successful evacuation of 206 out of 252 individuals from the Kostenko mine, following what appeared to be a methane explosion.
The Ministry for Emergency Situations also confirmed that they are actively monitoring the gas levels within the mine.
