At a convention centre in southern India, an explosive device detonated, claiming the life of at least one individual and causing injuries to 36 others on Sunday, as confirmed by authorities.
The Zamra International Convention Center in the town of Kalamassery, Kerala state, was hosting a prayer session for hundreds of Jehovah’s Witness adherents at the time of the blast.
According to the state’s chief police officer, Sheik Darvesh Saheb, the preliminary investigation suggests the use of an improvised explosive device.

Videos circulating online captured scenes of fire within the convention center and the efforts of rescuers aiding the evacuation process.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the incident, stating that the police are actively investigating the “unfortunate incident.”
As a precautionary measure, the police and medical personnel have been placed on high alert across the entire state.
