Arsenal have strengthened their dominance in the Premier League title race with a clear 3- 0 win against Sunderland at the Emirates, moving nine points clear and setting a record of 44 unbeaten home league matches in a row versus newly promoted teams.

The visitors started well and almost went ahead when Brian Brobbey was quickest to pounce on David Raya’s mistake in handling the ball, but Kai Havertz managed a vital block that kept the scores level. Arsenal slowly took control and scored the goal through Martín Zubimendi, whose thunderous shot from outside went in at the post near side.

Sunderland, after the interval, looked to come back with Chemsdine Talbi having a shot on Raya, but Arsenal’s bench quality was the main difference. Viktor Gyökeres, coming on at the break, made it 2-0 only moments later when he scored from Havertz’s pass despite being off balance. The Swedish attacker completed a brace in added time, rounding off a quick breakaway that was set up by Gabriel Martinelli’s run and pass.

The win has taken Arsenal’s unbeaten run versus Sunderland to another level and at the same time, put the London club well on the way to their first league championship since 2004.

On the other hand, Sunderland have lost only three of their last 10 league games, but the streak of no away wins at Arsenal, which began in 1983, still goes on.
