According to reports, Kai Havertz’s knee injury has now become the news of the day for Arsenal. The German winger, who was only on the verge of coming back from his lengthy hamstring injury, didn’t take part in the open training session of Wednesday after being off the field for the last game, i.e. Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
Along with stating the 26-year-old has injured his knee anew, it is also reported that Mikel Arteta has very few attacking options left.
As a result of Havertz’s nonappearance, Arteta was compelled to use midfielder Mikel Merino as a temporary striker, a tactical arrangement that went hand in hand with Arsenal’s declining title bid. Gabriel Jesus is still out of the game after tearing his ACL in January; thus, summer signing Viktor Gyökeres is currently the only one who can be called a natural striker.
The Gunners are “actively looking” for offensive reinforcements from the transfer market, a move triggered by this injury. The team had been concentrating on selling players this summer, with Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko being among the potentially free players, but the situation may now lead to the signing of a new player.
Mikel Arteta, who earlier this year had celebrated Havertz’s return from his hamstring injury with the German’s physical transformation, is now left with very few attacking options after this unfortunate relapse at Arsenal.
