Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is buzzing after his team claimed the top spot in the Premier League following a dramatic match between Liverpool and Manchester City! With only 10 games left in the season, the race for the championship title is heating up!
Arsenal are currently tied on points with Liverpool, but hold the lead thanks to a better goal difference. Manchester City trails them by just one point, making this a three-horse race for the trophy.
Last weekend was a rollercoaster for the top teams. Arsenal secured a narrow 2-1 victory against Brentford thanks to a late goal, extending their winning streak to eight games in the league. Meanwhile, the highly-anticipated match between Liverpool and City ended in a 1-1 draw.
“It’s fantastic to be on top, absolutely!” Arteta shared at a press conference before Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League match against Porto. “The game between Liverpool and City was incredible, both teams played amazingly. It’s great that we’re even in the conversation considering how strong those teams are. We’re determined to stay at the top and will keep fighting game by game.”
Arsenal are also on a mission to conquer Europe! They haven’t reached the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010, and this is their chance to change that. However, they’ll need to overcome a 1-0 loss from the first leg against Porto if they want to advance.
“Tomorrow night is our opportunity to turn things around,” Arteta said. “We’ll be playing at home in front of our fans, and we need their energy and support. Let’s do this together!”
While Arsenal are flying high domestically, their performance in Portugal against Porto was a different story. They struggled to create any scoring opportunities and ultimately lost the match.
Despite the setback, Arteta has faith in his team’s ability to bounce back in London. “Every team has its strengths and weaknesses,” he explained. “We’ve learned more about Porto since the first leg, and now we’ll focus on playing to our strengths and avoid the mistakes we made before.”
One player who will miss the upcoming match is Gabriel Martinelli. He suffered a foot injury and isn’t expected to recover in time.
