Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager has revealed the reason why he allowed Nwaneri to make his debut as the youngest ever player in the premier league. He said that “pure gut feeling” was the reason he included Ethan Nwaneri in his squad for the Brentford match.
Arsenal majestically returned to the top position in the premier league table, after a 3-0 win over Brentford.
William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus scored in the first half, and Fabio Vieria also scored making it 3-0. Nwaneri came in at the 90th minute to replace Bukayo Saka.
Speaking on this Arteta said that, it was a pure gut feeling, as he really liked him and he’s been training with them for some time and it was just pure intuition.
“It was a pure gut feeling. I met the boy, I really liked what I saw. He trained with us a couple of times.”
“I had that feeling yesterday that if the opportunity could come, I would do it. He deserves it,” Arteta told reporters.
Nwaneri joined Arsenal when he was just nine years old, and at 14 years old he was already playing for their U-20 side as a Midfielder. He trained with Arsenal’s first team in September and then proceeded to make his debut against Brentford.
At the age of 15 years, Ethan Nwaneri has made history as the youngest ever player to feature in a Premier League match. Harvey Elliot was the previous youngest player to feature in the premier league match, at the age of 16 years.
