Afrobeats star Asake has shared details about his early struggles with his father, Fatai Odunsi, revealing how their disagreement over his career choice led him to leave home as a teenager.
Speaking in an interview on KortyEO, the singer disclosed that his father was strongly against his decision to pursue music, a situation that eventually pushed him to make a bold move at the age of 15.
He explained that their personalities often clashed, describing his father as even more stubborn than himself, which made communication difficult at the time.

“The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face. We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no. But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me,” he said.
Despite the disagreement that once strained their relationship, Asake noted that his feelings for his father have never changed. He stressed that his respect and love remain intact, regardless of past differences.
According to the singer, even in extreme circumstances, his father would always hold that position in his life, adding that he values him just as much as his mother.
Over time, both have reconciled, with the artist now taking on responsibilities to support his father, signaling a renewed bond between them.
