Aston Villa kept up their stunning form streak as they achieved a milestone 2–1 victory at home against Manchester United in the Premier League, thus attaining 10 consecutive competitive wins for the first time in more than 100 years. Also, this far Villa have only won twice against United in the top-flight at home in 27 meetings.
Before long into the game, United looked a little shaky as Villa took the early lead; however, their goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, came to the rescue on several occasions, most notably denying John McGinn and Ollie Watkins while teenage defender Ayden Heaven was tight on the attackers. Eventually, Villa’s hard work was rewarded when Morgan Rogers beat his marker on the left, took a step towards the goal, and unleashed a perfect shot that hit the upper corner of the net from which there was no way back for the opposition.

On the verge of halftime, United managed to equalize after Patrick Dorgu stole the ball from Matty Cash; Matheus Cunha slotted the ball into the far corner with a lovely curving shot. However, any positives gained from this goal were offset by the fact that Bruno Fernandes had to leave the pitch through injury shortly after the break.
Not long after that, Villa once again took the lead thanks to Rogers, who did what he did on the first goal: he was able to cut inside, and his shot was unstoppable, so it went beyond Lammens. United almost got the leveler when Cunha’s headed effort went wide, although from such a close range, it was that miss which proved the most expensive for them.
By the end of the game, Villa had solidified their standing as one of the teams likely to challenge for the title, while, on the contrary, United saw their hopes of getting back to the European competition take another blow as their injury list kept on growing.
