Renowned nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has revealed that she endured an abusive relationship for 10 years.

During an interview with Chude Jideonwo, posted on X on Saturday, Adesanya disclosed that the abuse from her ex-lover led her to alcoholism.

Adesanya shared that her ex-lover physically abused her whenever he saw her and that she stayed in the marriage out of fear of societal judgment.

She further revealed that her colleagues, including Bimbo Akintola, were frustrated with her decision to remain in the abusive relationship.

The actress went on to detail the intensity of her ex-lover’s violence, which included threatening to pluck out her eyes with a knife and sending their one-year-old child to Ibadan out of jealously.

She said: “I became an alcoholīc. But I couldn’t leave because of the shame that people would say I couldn’t keep a man.

“The guy beats you right now and the next minute he’s begging you. So it was something I was involved in for 10 good years.

“Thank God there was no blogger then. It was so bad. The man would always tell those who called me for jobs that I wasn’t available.

“The night I was going to leave, it was like magic. It was like 12am in the middle of the night. This is the first time I’ll be talking about it . But I have to talk about it.”
