Popular French DJ and record producer, David Guetta, has claimed that the London and Los Angeles music industry view Ayra Starr as the new Barbadian-American icon, Rihanna.
In a recent interview with Cool FM Nigeria, Guetta had said the Nigerian singer was perceived to be the new Rihanna due to her unique behaviour and cultural background.
He praised her ability to rise above various cultures with her music, potentially highlighting her skyrocketing success and popularity.
Guetta had reckoned that Ayra’s distinctive musical style was a key factor in enthralling her global audience.
The DJ, who partnered with Ayra Starr and American rapper Lil Durk on the track ‘Big Fu,’ had spotlighted her international appeal. Guetta even went so far as to draw parallels to the last time he witnessed such global star power with Akon.
“An African artiste that’s killing it both in Europe and in the U.S.—it’s not every day you see it. The last time I experienced this was when I was working with Akon.”
Ayra Starr achieved mainstream recognition with her debut EP album and its hit track “Away” in early 2021.
The 21-year-old’s music is characterised by a unique blend of relatable lyrics and catchy, upbeat tunes.
