Tuesday night was pretty wild for the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Filled with some big wins and late goals, which definitely have a big say on how the next stage shapes up.
Bayern Munich really flexed its muscles, smashing Italian outlet Atalanta BC 6-1 right there in Bergamo. The German giant really went all out in Italy, with Michael Olise scoring two goals, and they just completely schooled the home team with really aggressive attacks. It means they are certainly already in the quarter final.
Over in Madrid, Atlético really took advantage of Tottenham’s terrible first half, winning 5-2 at the Metropolitano Stadium. The goalkeeper, Antonín Kinský, made some early mistakes that really cost them. Antoine Griezmann and Julián Álvarez accepted the gifts andscored, giving Diego Simeone’s team a big lead for the next game.

Over in Istanbul, Galatasaray SK just barely beat Liverpool FC 1-0, which was a pretty important win for them. Mario Lemina scored with a header just seven minutes in, and that one goal ended up being the decider in a pretty wild match where both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities.
At St James’ Park, Newcastle United FC was really close to beating FC Barcelona, but Lamine Yamal scored a penalty right at the end, making it a 1-1 tie. Barnes put Newcastle ahead in the 86th minute, but then Barcelona tied it up really late. Now, heading into the second game at Camp Nou, it’s anyone’s game.
So, with these first games done, a few teams are definitely in a good spot as the Champions League knockout rounds keep going next week.
