MultiChoice Nigeria has officially announced that Big Brother Naija Season 11 will premiere on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with the winner set to walk away with a record-breaking ₦160 million grand prize.

The reward, which includes ₦100 million in cash and an SUV, is the biggest prize ever offered since the reality show first debuted in Nigeria in 2006.

The increase reflects the remarkable growth of the franchise over the past two decades, transforming BBNaija from a reality television experiment into one of Africa’s most influential entertainment platforms.

Since its launch, the show has not only changed the lives of its winners but has also produced some of Nigeria’s biggest television personalities, actors, influencers and entrepreneurs.

From A $100,000 Prize To Millions Of Naira

When the first edition aired in 2006, the winner, Katung Aduwak, received a grand prize worth $100,000.

Although the prize was significant at the time, it pales in comparison to the hundreds of millions of naira now attached to the competition.

BBNaija Season 11: How The Reality Show’s Grand Prize Grew From $100,000 To ₦160 Million

Following the inaugural season, the show went on an 11-year break before making its highly anticipated return in 2017.

Since then, every new season has seen an increase in prize money, reflecting the programme’s growing popularity and commercial success.

The Winners Who Made History

The first winner after the show’s return was Efe Ejeba, who emerged victorious in Season 2 (2017).

His memorable slogan, “Based on logistics,” became a national catchphrase as he claimed the ₦25 million grand prize.

The following year, Miracle Igbokwe won Season 3 (2018) and received ₦45 million, further cementing BBNaija’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s biggest reality competitions.

Bigger Rewards For Bigger Competition

The prize fund continued to grow in 2019, when Mercy Eke made history as the first female winner of Big Brother Naija.

She walked away with a ₦60 million prize package after defeating a highly competitive field of housemates.

In 2020, Olamilekan “Laycon” Agbeleshe captured viewers’ hearts with his humility and intelligence.

His victory earned him a prize worth ₦85 million, consisting of ₦30 million in cash alongside sponsored gifts valued at ₦55 million.

By 2021, the show’s organisers had increased the reward again, with Hazel “Whitemoney” Onou winning ₦90 million after becoming one of the season’s standout personalities.

Entering the ₦100 Million Era

The 2022 edition marked another milestone as Josephina “Phyna” Otabor became the winner of Season 7.

Her prize package was valued at ₦100 million, comprising ₦50 million in cash and ₦50 million worth of sponsored prizes.

The upward trend continued in 2023, when Ilebaye Odiniya claimed the biggest reward in the show’s history at the time—₦120 million.

Her victory further demonstrated how BBNaija had evolved into a competition capable of changing contestants’ lives almost overnight.

Recent Champions Continue The Trend

Although the prize structure experienced slight adjustments, the show continued to reward winners generously.

Kellyrae, who won Season 9 (2024), received a grand prize worth ₦100 million.

In 2025, Opeyemi “Imisi” Ayanwale emerged victorious after defeating 28 other contestants during the finale.

Imisi received a prize package valued at ₦150 million, including ₦80 million in cash and an SUV, making it the richest reward ever awarded at the time.

Season 11 Raises The Bar Again

That record has now been surpassed.

For Season 11, the organisers have announced a historic ₦160 million grand prize, consisting of ₦100 million cash alongside an SUV.

The announcement was made during a press briefing where MultiChoice confirmed that this year’s reward is the highest since BBNaija began.

Ahead of the new season, physical auditions were held between May 22 and 24 in Lagos, Abuja and Enugu.

Participation was free, with only applicants aged 21 years and above possessing valid identification eligible to audition.

More Than A Reality Show

Beyond the prize money, BBNaija has become a major launchpad for careers in entertainment.

Several former contestants have successfully transitioned into acting, presenting, music, influencing and entrepreneurship.

Notable alumni include Bisola Aiyeola, Mercy Eke, Laycon and Whitemoney, among many others who continue to dominate Nigeria’s entertainment industry years after leaving the house.

As anticipation builds for the July 26 premiere, viewers are eager to see which contestant will join the growing list of BBNaija champions—and become the first housemate to walk away with the show’s record-breaking ₦160 million grand prize
