It’s the end of an era for Karim Benzema in the international space, as he announced his retirement from International Football on Monday, just after France lost to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup finals on Sunday.

The Balon D’or winner who due to an injury could not feature for France in the World Cup decided to call it to quit in the international space. Benzema who made his debut for France in 2007, has scored 37 goals in 97 games for France.

According to him, he’s proud of every effort he put into his game with France and even the mistakes, he has done his part and that chapter has closed.

He tweeted: “I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I am proud of it! “I have written my story and ours is ending.”

His international journey with France has not been smooth, as he was suspended from playing for France for five years after he was implicated in a blackmailing scandal. He however returned to playing for France in 2021, helping them to win the 2021 UEFA Nations League.

Regardless that Benzema could not feature for France in the 2022 world cup, France showed the world that they are a team to be feared, considering their performance from their very first match in the 2022 world cup till the finals.
