United States President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign has generated $27 million in donations from the day of the initial presidential debate through Friday evening, according to a campaign spokesperson. This significant fundraising haul comes amidst President Biden’s post-debate fundraising tour, aimed at maintaining pace with former President Donald Trump’s recent donation momentum
The Biden campaign, in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention, Biden PACs, and committees, collectively raised $85 million in May, trailing behind Trump’s $141 million haul during the same period. The post-debate campaign drive seeks to reassure donors of President Biden’s ability to secure a Democratic victory in November, despite his perceived shortcomings in the first debate against Trump.
Following the debate, President Biden acknowledged his performance, stating, “Folks, I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth.” The president has since engaged in various campaign events, including a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, and remarks at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in New York, marking Pride Month.
The Biden campaign’s fundraising efforts are expected to continue, with multiple campaign receptions scheduled in New York and New Jersey. The president’s next debate against Trump is set for September 10, offering an opportunity for redemption and to address concerns regarding his age and ability to handle a second term.
