Popular Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has addressed the backlash that followed her announcement of her separation from her husband, Oluseyi, which coincided with his birthday.

The announcement, which came four years into their marriage, stirred reactions on social media, with some accusing the actress of intentionally trying to spark public criticism against her estranged partner by revealing the news on his special day.

However, while speaking at an event where a house was presented to veteran actress Jumoke George, Biola clarified that her decision to make the announcement was to avoid being misrepresented online.

“I’m human too,” she said. “The reason I spoke about my marriage was because I didn’t want someone else putting out the story in a way that would hurt me. That’s just my approach — to speak my truth before others twist it.”

She further explained that the timing was not meant to be malicious, revealing that her ex-husband was aware of the post beforehand.

“People had started questioning why I no longer posted him. I didn’t want false narratives to spread. I informed him before putting it out. But even after doing it the right way, it was still used against me,” she said. “Regardless, I believe God will reward everyone accordingly.”

Known for her openness, Biola Bayo had previously revealed in 2023 that she and her husband welcomed their son through surrogacy.
