A Brazilian returning home was detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency with cocaine pellets hidden inside his underwear.
This was said in a statement made by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Babafemi, the suspect was detained at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos State’s arrivals area.
He claimed that the suspect was apprehended on June 20 upon arrival from Sao Paulo, Brazil, through Addis Ababa, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
He stated that before leaving Brazil, the suspect ingested 50 wraps of cocaine and passed out 48 pellets in Addis Abeba, where he gave them to another individual.
Before boarding his flight, the suspect reportedly couldn’t get rid of the final two wraps in his Addis Abeba hotel room, according to Babafemi.
He later passed them in the restroom of the aircraft while traveling from Ethiopia to Lagos, according to Babafemi.
The NDLEA’s officers have in the meantime detained two drug traffickers who were responsible for smuggling two cocaine shipments from Canada through the Tin Can Port in Apapa, Lagos, hidden in car containers.
According to Babafemi, one of them was taken into custody on June 22 at his home in the Idi Araba neighborhood of Lagos.
The defendant was detained for smuggling a 40-foot container that contained 33 packages of “Colorado” totaling 16.5 kg.
The second suspect, known as Otunba, was detained on Thursday for his part in the smuggling of 290 packets of “Colorado” weighing 145kg from Montreal, Canada, Babafemi stated.
Four cars were used to transport the drugs into Nigeria in a 40-foot container.
“He had been on the run since March and had in the course of investigation attempted to bribe the NDLEA officers with N10 million to influence the case,’’ Babafemi stated
