A section of a bridge in the Greek city of Patras collapsed along a ring road on Sunday, resulting in the loss of one person’s life and leaving eight others injured, as reported by the fire brigade.
Fire brigade rescuers swiftly responded to the scene, working diligently to search for any individuals who might have been trapped under the debris, as confirmed by fire brigade spokesman Ioannis Artopoios.
Distressing footage from Greek media depicted the bridge’s partial destruction, with broken concrete slabs and iron rods scattered about, while numerous rescuers made efforts to aid the victims.
Further adding to the tragedy, an official from the fire brigade disclosed that the bridge had been closed last week due to reconstruction works, raising concerns and questions about the circumstances that led to its collapse.
