The UK prime minister, Rishi Sunak has been fined by the Lancashire Police for defaulting to wear a seatbelt while filming a social media clip while seating in the back of a moving car.
Sunak has already apologised for what he termed a “brief error of judgment” after the clip was posted to Instagram during a visit to the area to talk about Levelling Up funding.
This will be the second fixed penalty notice for Mr. Sunak; as he had previously been fined a £50 ticket for breaching Covid lockdown laws at one of the events that sparked the Partygate scandal while he had been a chancellor.
A news reporter at No 10 has confirmed that Mr. Sunak would be paying the fine and that he also “fully accepts this was a mistake on his part and has since apologized for the transgression”.
