Brume grabs Nigeria first athletics medal at the Olympics in 13 years

The long wait for Nigeria’s first medal at the Olympics ended on Tuesday as Ese Brume grabs Bronze at the long jump event.

Brume got the Bronze in the long jump event with 6.79m coming behind Germany’s Malaika Mihambo and USA’s Brittney Reese who clinched Gold and Silver respectively.

Brume has ruled the African scene since she became the Commonwealth Champion in 2014.

She went on to clinch 5th place at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and also ended Nigeria’s wait for a medal at World Championship in 2019 with a Bronze medal.

Prior to the Olympics games, she broke Chioma Ajunwa’s long standing record of 7.12m in long jump. While speaking at the Mixed Zone, Brume got plans on how she is going to celebrate the win. She said, “I plan to go to Canaan-Land to wear it and show Bishop Oyedepo.”

If anyone deserves her roses now, it’s Ese Brume.
