Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes signed a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an option for an extra year. The deal was announced by the Premier League club on Wednesday.
Fernandes, 29, has been one of United’s shining lights since his arrival in 2020. He has scored 79 goals and made 67 in 234 outings for the Portuguese midfielder. He had initially signed an extension in 2022 that would see him stay till 2026 but has now nailed down the club for even longer.
In an accompanying statement, Fernandes claimed his strong feeling for the club, saying: “Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club. I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.”
Fernandes got a new contract ahead of United’s Premier League opener at home to Fulham on Friday, which underlined the importance of the player for the team’s future ambition.
