Bruno Fernandes has been voted Premier League Player of the Year for his phenomenal individual campaign, which was crucial in leading Manchester United to a third-placed finish and equalling the record for the most assists in a Premier League campaign.

The 31-year-old drew level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne with a day remaining and chipped in eight goals along the way.

Fernandes proved to be United’s attacking hub for the entirety of the campaign and topped the league in chances created by over 40 (132), and the award is presented on the back of the Portuguese international being included in an eight-man shortlist containing the title-winners Gabriel, David Raya, Declan Rice, and Erling Haaland, as well as Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Thiago.

This is the fifth occasion the 31-year-old has received the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, and it also comes following him picking up the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award.

The former Sporting CP midfielder will have the opportunity to break the Premier League assist record when United take on Brighton in their final game, and the award is particularly impressive as it has been presented to a player who did not win the Premier League, the first player since 2020 to receive this award, and a player who only returned from injury at the beginning of January.

He will now link up with his national side to prepare for the World Cup finals later this year, where Portugal will face Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
