President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to release an extra sum of N454 billion in public funds to keep constructing the Kano-Niger Railway and other large capital projects.
This announcement had been made on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa by the transportation minister, Mu’azu Sambo, who informed the public that N454 billion would be used to purchase rolling stock, operation as well as maintain equipment for the Kano-Maradi standard gauge rail line, presently under construction.
On completion, the 248-kilometer rail line will connect Kano to several cities in the country such as Kazaure in Bauchi state, Daura and Mashi in Katsina state, Dutse, the capital of Jigawa state, and the border town of Jibia before the line ends in Maradi, Niger Republic’s trade and agricultural center.
