The president of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has authorized and signed a new law intended to pave the way for major health insurance throughout Nigeria. The bill is also supposed to enhance social fitness insurance into the reach of poor Nigerians. According to the president, the 2022 National Health Insurance Authority Bill will gain over eighty-three million poor Nigerians across the country.

The signing of this new bill has then again replaced and canceled the previous National Health Insurance Scheme Act, Cap N42 handed in 2004. This was a deliberate choice, specified the president, as the new bill fell more in line with his deliberate healthcare reforms. He promised that the federal authorities would ensure full implementation of the New Act and ensure it exhibits huge coverage for all Nigerians.

The recent layout with the aid of the authorities is to set up a Vulnerable Groups Fund which will be an aspect of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund under the authority’s control. They also planned to elevate the fundamental monies wanted to fund the new Act through a Health Insurance Levy, a Special Interventions Fund as well as any funding returns, donations, and items to the government.

Also deliberate is the National Health Authority joining forces with state authorities’ health insurance plan schemes to allow quick accreditation of essential and secondary health facilities and enroll Nigerians into the scheme as quickly as possible. The partnership and the new law will additionally permit the Health Authority and the government to strengthen statistics administration structures and digital records.
