The thing about binge eating is the guilt and anxiety that comes right after. You begin to wonder about how much food you had just eaten, and then you worry about how much weight you stand to gain.

This anxiety and guilt can itch you up inside and make you consider ways to undo what you’ve done. These opportunities in extreme measures such as throwing up the food that has just been eating or trying to fix what they eat using laxatives. Eventually, this becomes a cycle which quickly becomes a habit, where being eaten and purging become regular ways to cope with stress and emotions. This is what people suffering from bulimia nervosa deal with. In this article we are going to talk about the impact, and treatment of bulimia nervosa.

What Are The Impact of Bulimia Nervosa?

People with this condition often deal with physical health consequences, and psychological impact.

Physical health consequences: One of the counteracts that people who deal with this condition practice is trying to throw up excessive food that they have had. Repeated vomiting can erode the tooth enamel which can cause tooth decay, make the tooth sensitive, and also lead to gum issues. This is because of the acid that comes from the stomach which can lead to damage to the teeth over time.

Another physical health issue that bulimia nervosa patience space is imbalanced electrolyte. Vomiting too much and using a lot of lactating can disturb the balance of the Essential minerals in the body like sodium and potassium. When the body doesn’t have minerals like these it can lead to serious issues such as problems with the heart, muscle cramps, and even weakness.

Psychological impact: People with bulimia nervosa often struggle with negative self image, and a constant feeling of worthlessness. They usually believe that the value is tight to how they look or how much weight they weigh.

With this condition, it is a never ending cycle of binge eating and purging, which can make them feel guilty and ashamed. These emotions can lead to or even worsen depression.

Treatment of Bulimia Nervosa

First of all, bulimia nervosa is a serious condition and handling it on your own is not the way to go, it can really be tough. It’s best to get help from doctors or therapists who are well vast in conditions like this. They will be able to guard you through recovery and also provide you with all the necessary support and recommendations that you will need. But other treatment options include:

Therapy: there are different therapy options for this condition. The first one is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This type of therapy helps you change negative thoughts and behaviors that always lead up to this condition. It is all about breaking the cycle of binge eating and purging. During the cause of this therapy you will get to learn healthier ways to think and act towards this condition.

The second therapy option is dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). DBT basically teaches you the skills that will help you handle your emotions and stress levels better. It will help you handle those urges that cause you to binge and purge.

The last but not the least is interpersonal therapy (IPT). This type of therapy involves improving your relationship, communication, and how well you handle social pressure, or your emotional image.

Nutrition counseling: For this treatment option you would have to work with a nutritionist who will help you to create a balanced eating plan. The nutritionist will guide you on how to eat healthy food and how to deal with disordered eating patterns that you may have developed while struggling with bulimia.

Medication: Sometimes, doctors prescribe medications like antidepressants which will help you manage symptoms like the person and anxiety better.
